2022 Ford F-150: The All-New Ford F Series Is a Banger
The Ford F Series doesn’t need much of an introduction as its highlight, the F-150, is America’s best-selling vehicle of all time. There’s good reason for this, the F150 has been America’s favorite full-sized pickup more than half a century. This is a truck that is known for being powerful, durable, and luxurious in every era of production. Now, there’s a new F-150 available; so, how does it hold up?
Features
The new F-150 is a part of the 14th generation of the Ford F Series. It has been redesigned from the inside and outside. The new F150 is not only more powerful than the previous model, but it is a lot more efficient as well. Ford offers a new hybrid powertrain along with the Ford Lightning, aka the F150 EV.
Engine and Numbers
The 2022 F150 offers a diverse selection of engines. The first one is a 3.3-liter V6 that produces 290 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque. Next up is a 5-liter V8 which makes 400 hp and 410 lb-ft. While it is a V8, its Variable Displacement Engine technology deactivates cylinders for more efficiency.
For maximum efficiency, you can get the smallest engine: a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 turbo with 325 hp and 400 lb-ft. There are two more powerful EcoBoost engines offered. The first is a 3.5-liter V6 which makes 400 hp and 500 lb-ft. The second is a boosted version of that, churning up to 450 hp and 510 lb-ft.
There’s also a new hybrid (first time in a pickup) 3.5-liter V6 which makes 430 hp and 570 lb-ft. Then you have the Ford Lightning that everyone’s talking about. It is the first-ever all-electric pickup truck from Ford and the only EV in the full-sized category. This truck offers 452 and 580 hp versions.
So, what about the towing and payload capacities then? The maximum that an F150 can haul is about 14000 pounds, which puts it at the top of the class. Meanwhile, the payload maxes out at 3250 lbs. You just need to equip the truck right.
The best fuel economy offered on the F150 is 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway on the 2.7-liter V6. The F150 hybrid will do 25 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The trucks are also very quick, with all of them accelerating in around 5 seconds from 0 to 62 mph. The Lightning is the quickest in the 4-second range.
Interior and Technology
The new Ford F Series features a handsomely designed cabin with lots of room. But just because it looks good doesn’t mean that it’s not practical. There’s a lot of functionality in the interior and all the buttons are right where you’d expect them to be.
XL
The XL offers a lot for a base model. You get an 8-inch infotainment system, a 4-inch productivity screen a rearview camera equipped with Ford’s Dynamic Hitch system. Other standard stuff includes single-zone manual AC, and pre-collision assist w/ Automated Emergency and Post-Collision Braking systems.
XLT
The XLT adds a bit more to the mix. You get more goodies as standard, such as cruise control, a lane keeping system, powered door locks, and Wi-Fi Hotspot connectivity.
Lariat
The Lariat model is where the F150’s luxurious aspect really comes to shine. You get a 12-inch infotainment screen, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and push-button ignition.
The rearview mirror has auto-dimming for added safety. The front seats are heated and ventilated.
King Ranch
The King Ranch model lives up to its name with a plethora of standard features. Apart from the stuff mentioned above, you get intelligent adaptive cruise control, rain sensing wipers, a heated steering wheel, and wireless charging for your phone. You also get a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
You also get heated seats in the rear, meanwhile the ones upfront are power-adjustable.
Platinum
The Platinum model offers you its unique genuine wooden accents and options similar to the aforementioned King Ranch.
Limited
The Limited is the top model and it as a lot to offer. It brings to you the standard 360-Degree Camera package, which lets you observe all of your truck’s surroundings. You also get a Forward Sensing System Open to warn you about the objects ahead, plus Active Park Assist 2.0 to help you park.

Exterior and Driving
The F150 has been redesigned but it still has a very commanding presence on the road. You get 17-inch steel wheels as standard on the XL; upgradable to 18- or 20-inch aluminum or chrome ones. You can expect the upper trims to sport 17- to 22-inch aluminum wheels as standard.
The new F150 is a thrill to drive, and this isn’t just because it is super quick for its class. The truck is tuned well as far as handling is concerned. The body roll on it is minimum compared to its peers. It is also very good off-road, and you can add an off-roading package to improve it.
The F150 Tremor and Raptor models take its off-roading prowess to a whole new level.
Reliability and Warranty
The new Ford F Series has received a lot of praise from automotive experts. JD Power have given it a good rating and so have Car and Driver. There have been no reported issues with its reliability. So, how’s the coverage then?
Well, it is one of the best in the industry. Ford keeps you covered with its Limited and powertrain warranties for 3 years/36k miles and 5 years/60k miles respectively.
