2023 F-150 King Ranch Review
Car and Driver calls the Ford F150 King Ranch “ideal for drivers who want interior comfort and style as well as a lower price point than the top F-150 trims.” The King Ranch is also preferred by those looking for a more exclusive version of the F150 with customized features. It is known for offering a lot more sophistication than its rivals, along with higher capabilities.
The following is a review of its latest version, the 2023 F150 King Ranch:
Features
The all-new 14th generation F150 made its way to our hearts (and roads) last year. It offers 9 different trim levels, with the King Ranch model being considered in the upper echelon of the trim hierarchy. Three engines, and two truck bed sizes are offered. Because this generation debuted last year, the 2023 model sees no major changes.
Powertrain and Numbers
The standard engine offered on the F150 King Ranch is a 5-liter V8 making 400 hp and 410 lb-ft. There are two optional engines – the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 400 hp and 500 lb-ft, and the 3.5-liter hybrid V6 makes 430 hp and 570 lb-ft.
You can expect a 10-speed automatic gearbox with all the engines, and a modified version with the hybrid. The transmission sends all the power outputs to a rear-wheel drive system as it is standard on the 2023 King Ranch. 4×4 is optional.
With all this power, it’s not a surprise that the truck is a quick one. The 3.5-liter engines are the best ones in terms of acceleration. They both are capable of being launched from 0 to 62 mph in just 5 seconds – crazy for a half-ton truck even today.
In true heavy-duty fashion, you can also accept a stellar towing capacity from the F150 King Ranch 2023. It can pull up to a stellar 14,000 lbs if you opt for the 3.5-liter non-hybrid V6 engine and some other equipment. The maximum payload capacity is 3315 lbs.
In terms of fuel economy, the hybrid is the best at 25 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. It is followed by the 3.5-liter non-hybrid at 18 mpg city and 24 highways. The big bad V8 will get you a respectable 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg highway.
Interior and Technology
The 2023 F150 King Ranch will captivate and leave you thoroughly impressed with its luxurious and visually appealing interior. It is adorned by high-quality materials, some of which aren’t even found in the higher trim levels. The cabin space is more than enough for seating five people.
Ford doesn’t overlook the in-cabin storage either. You get all the essential compartments and cupholders you could want, plus the standard partitioned fold-flat storage feature and fully-flat loading floor (on the crew cab).
The F150 King Ranch 2023 features stunning java-colored leather seats and upholstery, unique to this trim. You also get a mesa leather-wrapped steering wheel, unique genuine wood accents, and custom King Ranch floor mats to compliment it all.
The tech includes dual-zone climate control, push-button ignition, keyless entry, ambient mood lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a 12-inch instrumentation screen. There’s a flow-through center console with stowable floor shifter for maximum practicality.
You also get heated and ventilated front seats, where the driver gets 10-way power adjustability. There’s a heated steering wheel and rear seats, and a wireless charging pad for your phone among other stuff.
The infotainment system comprises a 12-inch touchscreen, a premium stereo by Bang & Olufsen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 4G LTE WI-FI hotspot, and Ford’s SYNC 4 system (w/voice recognition). Satellite navigation is also standard.
The safety department is stacked with goodies like automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian detection), a lane-keeping system, reverse sensing. rain-sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control, and more.
Exterior and Driving
As handsome as ever, the Ford F150 King Ranch, comes with stuff such as LED headlamps, fog lamps, and taillamps. The side mirrors are powered and heated and offer memory settings. The driver also gets auto-dimming.
The truck bed comes in sizes of 5.5 and 6.5 feet in length and the crew cab configuration is standard. The exterior colors offered on the 2023 King Ranch are:
- Agate Black Metallic
- Antimatter Blue Metallic
- Azure Gray Metallic Tri-Coat
- Stone Gray Metallic
- Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
- Iconic Silver Metallic
- Oxford White
- Star White Metallic Tri-Coat
All the 2023 F150 models defy the sluggish stereotypes of old-school pickups with their quick acceleration, exceptional handling, and responsive braking. You’ll feel confident as you’re speeding through the bends.
The cabin offers a serene atmosphere free from any intrusive noise or vibrations. If you live in the countryside, you’ll be glad to know that 4-wheel drive is available and so are an array of available driving modes that can alter the truck based on the terrain you are on.
Reliability and Warranty
If you opt for any 2023 F150 model – even the King Ranch – it has gotten a spectacular score of 86 out of 100 from JD Power, putting it in the ‘Great’ category. Look online and you’ll find positive consumer reviews as well.
Ford offers two warranties on the 2023 F150 – the first is a limited warranty that covers you for 3 years/36k miles, the second is the powertrain components warranty good for 5 years/60k miles. If you opt for the hybrid, you can get a hybrid components warranty of 8 years/100k miles.
Verdict
The 2023 F150 King Ranch should be a spectacular truck as it is more luxurious than most passenger cars and is much more capable thanks to its quick acceleration and high towing capacity. There are countless features offered in the realms of safety and convenience. There are many custom offerings inside the cabin and the truck is a reliable one.
