2023 Ford Bronco Big Bend Review
The Ford Bronco made a triumphant return not too long ago, paying tribute to the original Bronco while incorporating many modern touches. It is an off-road automobile designed and manufactured by and for off-road enthusiasts.
The latest model currently offered is the 2023 Bronco, with the Big Bend variant being a step above the entry-level trim. The following is a review of its highlights:
The 2023 Ford Bronco Big Bend is one of the latest offerings of the 6th generation of the Bronco that was relaunched in 2021 along with the smaller Bronco Sport. It comes with 9 trim levels and 2 powertrain options – a manual gearbox is also offered.
The Big Bend trim is second on the hierarchy as it is just above the base variant. It doesn’t get any updates for the year apart from the fact that the new Heritage Edition trim is based on it.
Powertrain and Numbers
The 2023 Bronco Big Bend comes standard with a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine that produces 300 hp and 325 lb-ft. This power is fed to a 4×4 system with part-time selectable engagement that basically gives you three modes of driving based on different conditions.
This happens courtesy of the Bronco’s acclaimed 7-speed manual gearbox. It gives you the feeling of driving an old-school no-nonsense off-roader with all the control in your hands. There’s also a 10-speed automatic transmission offered, along with an upgraded 4WD system.
Things get more serious with the second engine, which is the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 330 hp and 415 lb-ft. It allows the Bronco Big Bend 2023 to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6 seconds. The base engine isn’t far behind as it takes a second longer to do the same.
Whether you pick the two-door model, or the one with four doors, the maximum towing capacity offered on the 2023 Bronco Big Bend is 3500 lbs. If you’re looking for something even higher, then the Ford Bronco Raptor should do the trick as it can pull a 1000 lbs more.
To achieve the highest fuel economy, your best bet is to opt for the base engine combined with the automatic. This arrangement gets you 20 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. The V6 with the automatic gives you 19 mpg city, 21 highway.
Interior and Technology
The interior of the 2023 Bronco Big Bend is captivating as it is designed to be robust with a lot of attention to detail. No matter the configuration you pick, the cabin generously accommodates all passengers with ample space. It is quite easy to clean as well.
The storage functionalities are just as impressive thanks to the numerous cubbies and an exceptional storage capacity that exceeds expectations. The rear bench of seats can be folded in the 4-door version to make way for even more cargo.
The black onyx interior contains marine grade vinyl seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. In terms of amenities, you get single-zone climate control, push-button ignition, keyless entry, an 8-inch instrumentation screen, adjustable front seats, and powered windows.
There’s also an 8-inch infotainment screen mated to a 7-speaker stereo system (w/subwoofer). There’s also wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, bluetooth, and multiple power outlets for enhanced connectivity.
Because the Bronco is all about personalization, there’s a massive options list. It includes dual-zone climate control, remote start, heated front seats, satellite navigation, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient mood lighting, and many other features.
For safety, you get automated emergency braking, a backup camera, automatic high-beam, and trailer sway control. Optional safety extras include reverse parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring (w/rear cross-traffic alert), and lane-departure warning (w/lane-keeping assist).
Exterior and Driving
The 2023 Bronco Big Bend comes with a boxy exterior that pays homage to the off-road machines of old. The two-door version comes with a hard-top roof while the 4-door model gets a canvas roof. You can remove the roof and doors on both models to enjoy the open air.
17-inch gray aluminum alloy wheels are standard but you can get gloss black ones as well. The hefty list of options includes several roof types, bumpers, spare tire covers, bash plates, and even body armor (protective moldings).
The exterior colors available on the 2023 Bronco Big Bend are:
- Atlas Blue Metallic
- Avalanche Gray
- Area 51
- Shadow Black
- Hot Pepper Red Metallic
- Iconic Silver Metallic
- Alto Blue Metallic
- Cactus Gray

The Bronco is considered to be an off-road vehicle that’s effortless to drive due to its powerful engine options that deliver effortless power. Even though the trail is its happy place, there’s nothing that it can’t do to impress you on paved roads.
Despite this being an all-terrain vehicle, it displays stellar manners on the road when you put it through curvy roads. The steering is very precise and responsive, and the handling should inspire a lot of confidence. It is also quite comfortable for an off-road rig.
Reliability and Warranty
The 2023 Bronco Big Bend – along with the other trims – gets a score of 77 out of 100 from JD Power. Hence it falls into the organization’s ‘Average’ category.
