2023 Ford F-150 Platinum Review
The Ford F150 continues to be the most successful full-size pickup in the United States after decades of dominance. Its power, durability, comfort, and many other attributes have given it a special place in motoring history.
The 2023 F150 is the latest model of the F-Series, and its Platinum trim level is considered the penultimate symbol of the iconic truckās sophistication. It is available for sale and the following is a review of its highlights:
Features
The Ford F150 is in its 14th generation which was launched in 2022. This yearās model features nine trim levels and many engine options. The Platinum is just below the top trim level, and it offers a choice of three engines ā one of which is a hybrid.
Two truck bed options, and one cab configuration are offered along with many other customization options. The 2023 Platinum model doesnāt see any updates though, as the all-new truck was launched just last year.
Powertrain and Numbers
As mentioned above, there is a troika of engines offered on the 2023 F150 Platinum. We begin with the standard engine; the 5-liter V8 that produces 400 hp and 410 lb-ft. You can also get the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 which is good for 400 hp and 500 lb-ft.
The greenest of the three is the 3.5-liter hybrid V6 making 430 hp and 570 lb-ft. 10-speed automatic gearboxes are offered on all the engines. Rear-wheel drive is standard while all-wheel drive is an optional extra, along with an electronic locking diff and some other goodies.
No matter the engine you pick, you can be sure that youāll have a great time on the drag strip. All three engines can accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in just about 5 seconds, which is revolutionary for any pickup of this size.
Then you have the towing capacity, which is also one of the best in the class. The truck can pull up to 14,000 lbs with the 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine if you equip it right. The base V8 engine isnāt too shabby either as it can tow up to 13,000 lbs. The maximum payload capacity is 3315 lbs.
In terms of fuel economy, the hybrid engine does the best here at 25 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. It is followed by the 3.5-liter engine which achieves 18 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. The V8 can do 17 mpg city and 25 highways.
Interior and Technology
The interior of the 2023 F150 Platinum is a masterpiece for many reasons. It is built well with high quality materials, is spacious with ample legroom and headroom for all, and has extremely comfortable and supportive seating.
While the truck bed is the highlight here as far as storage is concerned, the interior features quite a handful of cubbies and cup holders. With this trim, you also unlock partitioned and lockable fold-flat storage as a standard offering.
As indicated by its name, the 2023 F150 Platinum oozes luxury and sophistication. Examples of this are the leather-wrapped steering wheel, unique real wood trimmings, and leather seats (front ones are multi-contour).
For tech, you get dual-zone climate control, push-button ignition, keyless entry, ambient mood lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an instrumentation screen. You also get heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.
You also get a 10-way power adjustable seat for the driver, wireless charging for your phone, a flow-through center console (w/stowable floor shifter), and a heated steering wheel. Then you have a 12-inch touchscreen and a premium stereo system tuned by B&O.
Also included is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 4G LTE WI-FI hotspot, and satellite navigation. Thereās a suite of safety features which includes automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian detection), a lane-keeping system, a 360-degree camera, and reverse sensing.
