2023 Ford Maverick Review
The Ford Maverick is the one of the latest feathers in Ford’s cap of consumer-favorite pickup trucks. Despite being launched not too long ago, it has gained a fan following for its great design, efficiency, and driving prowess. It is a practical machine with a lot of pizzazz.
Now, its latest model is up for sale – the 2023 Ford Maverick. The following its is review:
The Ford Maverick is currently in its 1st generation (if you only count the compact pickup truck). The new Maverick 2023 comes with 3 trim levels and 2 powertrain options – one of which is a hybrid. It offers 1 truck bed option, and the same goes for its cab.
This year’s model features the add-on of the Tremor package, which adds a whole suite of features to spruce up the Maverick for off-roading. You can add it to the top two trims – the XLT and the Lariat. All models of the Maverick 2023 are packed with interesting standard features.
Powertrain and Numbers
The Ford Maverick 2023 comes with a 2.5-liter hybrid engine that makes 191 hp and 155 lb-ft, mated to a CVT. You can also go for the 2-liter turbocharged engine that’s good for 250 hp and 277 lb-ft – it is connected to an 8-speed automatic.
Front-wheel drive is standard on both, but the latter is also available with all-wheel drive. Acceleration is top notch, as the turbo model will accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than 6 seconds. The hybrid also does well, doing the same in 7ish seconds.
The Maverick wouldn’t really be a pickup truck if it couldn’t tow or haul well. The turbo can pull up to 4000 lbs of trailer when equipped right. The hybrid isn’t bad either as it too can tow a maximum of 2000 lbs. The maximum payload capacity is 1500 lbs.
The Maverick built up a loyal consumer fan base thanks to its great fuel economy. The best numbers are obtained from the hybrid which can do up to 42 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The turbo will do 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with FWD.
Interior and Technology
The new Maverick 2023 features a funky-looking interior that is built to be durable and ergonomic. It can seat up to 5 occupants in absolute comfort. The cubby storage is respectable and it includes storage bins beneath the rear seat for some extra space.
The following are the trim levels of the 2023 Ford Maverick:
2023 Maverick XL
The entry-level Maverick comes with a stylish black onyx/medium dark slate interior. You get single-zone climate control, keyless entry, multi-way adjustable front bucket seats, and cruise control. There’s also an 8-inch touchscreen, 6 speakers, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
There are many safety features available which include but aren’t limited to automated emergency braking, a rearview camera, and automatic high beam. Blind spot monitoring (w/rear cross-traffic assist) is also available as an optional extra.
2023 Maverick XLT
On this model, you get a navy pier/medium slate interior and unlock several cool options. These include an 8-way powered driver’s seat, heated front seats, a larger instrumentation screen, a moonroof, remote start, and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel.
2023 Maverick Lariat
The Maverick Lariat offers a desert brown ActiveX-trimmed interior, dual-zone climate control, a larger instrumentation screen, and an 8-way powered driver’s seat. More options are unlocked such as heated seats, a premium stereo by B&O, push-button ignition, and wireless charging.
Exterior and Driving
The 2023 Maverick is an attractive truck that’s offered in a double cabin (4-door configuration). It has a 4.5-foot bed that also contains a power outlet, extra cubby storage, and even a false floor. The models differ by several features such as their front grilles.
You get a black mesh grille with different colored bars on the three models. LED headlamps are standard, with the top two trims having wiper-activated ones. They also have 17- and 18-inch aluminum wheels respectively.
Upgrading to the off-road Tremor Package is possible on the XLT and Lariat. This gets you countless niceties such as off-road suspension, a twin-clutch rear drive unit, a 4WD lock, a heavy-duty transmission cooler, and of course, fatter off-roading tires.
Depending on your trim level, the following are the exterior colors offered on the 2023 Maverick:
- Atlas Blue Metallic
- Avalanche Gray
- Area 51
- Shadow Black
- Hot Pepper Red Metallic
- Iconic Silver Metallic
- Alto Blue Metallic

The Maverick 2023 has a smooth engine that provides you with a fair amount of power in case you need to step on it. Testers are praising its handling, which feels really controlled. The brakes and suspension are of solid quality.
You’ll love the ride quality as well as the truck absorbing the blemishes on the road well. Opting for the Tremor package will ensure that these attributes are carried on over to the trail. It has specific modes for all the sticky situations you could encounter there.
Reliability and Warranty
JD Power gives the 2023 Ford Maverick a score of 81 out of 100 in predicted reliability, placing it in the ‘Great’ category. Consumer Reports also expects it to be more reliable than average, which is another compliment.
The coverage offered is also solid. Ford gives you a limited warranty of 3 years/36k miles, a powertrain warranty of 5 years/60k miles, and hybrid components warranty good for 8 years/100k miles (if needed).
Despite its compact size, the Ford Maverick 2023 is everything you could want from a pickup truck. It is powerful, quick, tows well, and is efficient. It also looks great on the outside and inside and is super comfortable. There are cubbies everywhere and overall, it is a reliable vehicle.
