Ford Mustang GT

The Ford Mustang GT is a nameplate synonymous with high performance. For more than half a century, it has evolved from a traditional muscle car to a full-on sports car. This year, we have the 2023 Mustang GT which is available in fastback and convertible versions.

The following is a review of the 2023 Ford Mustang GT models:

Features

The 2023 Ford Mustang is a part of the 6th generation of the Mustang that was launched in 2015. It offers 5 trim levels, 2 of which are the GT models. You also get the top engine as standard with a choice of 2 transmissions – one of which is a stick-shift manual for purists.

As far as changes are concerned, there aren’t any. The model before that saw some updates in the form of appearance packages that allowed you to personalize the car according to your needs. These packages are also available on the 2023 model.

Powertrain and Numbers

The Mustang GT models come with Ford’s acclaimed 5-liter V8 engine which makes 450 hp and 410 lb-ft. Now, it wouldn’t be a Mustang GT without a stick-shift gearbox which is why you get a 6-speed manual transmission. A 10-speed automatic is also on the menu.

The drag strip is where the Mustang got its reputation for quick acceleration. This new model doesn’t disappoint as it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just about 4 seconds with the 10-speed auto. The manual one isn’t far behind at approximately 4.5 seconds.

Then you have the fuel economy, where the automatic Mustang GT models deliver up to 15 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The manual models do similarly but lose 1 mpg on the combined rating. These numbers are stellar for such a large and powerful engine.

Of course, if you’re looking for the very best fuel economy from a Mustang, then you can get the electrified CUV – the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The 2023 Ford Mustang GT features a well-built and roomy cabin that’s modern but oozes nostalgia. You get four comfortable seats and an interior with many nice materials. However, it is a practical design that makes this muscle car more livable.

Whether you pick the fastback or the convertible, the Mustang GT does not disappoint when it comes to the size of its trunk. Also, it is a wide trunk that’s low, near the ground – so loading and unloading is easier as compared to rivals.

Exterior and Driving

The Mustang GT looks sleeker and more stylish than ever. The highlights include LED headlights, taillights, and turn signals, a raised decklid spoiler, and hood vents. Upgrading to the GT Premium gets you heated and Pony Puddle Lamp side-view mirrors.

You also get dual exhausts with quad tips on both models. They also feature 18-inch machine-faced high-gloss aluminum wheels, upgradable to a variety of 19- (GT) and 20-inch wheels (GT Premium).

The following are the colors available on the 2023 Mustang:

  • Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  • Atlas Blue Metallic
  • Oxford White
  • Carbonized Gray Metallic
  • Iconic Silver Metallic
  • Dark Matter Gray Metallic
  • Shadow Black
  • Grabber Blue Metallic

The 2023 Mustang GT will send chills and thrills down your spine as soon as you step on it. Unlike the muscle cars of old, this one can actually hold its own in the corners and is considered to be very agile. The braking capabilities of this car are also solid, as they need to be.

Reliability and Warranty

JD Power hasn’t rated the 2023 Mustang models but Consumer Reports has, and it expects the Mustang GT to have average reliability as compared to its peers. The reviews from the Mustang GT’s current owners are also positive.

For even more peace of mind, you get several warranties that cover your purchase. The most notable ones are the limited warranty of 3 years/36k miles and the powertrain components warranty of 5 years/60k miles.

Verdict

The 2023 Ford Mustang GT rules over the pony car segment and has been ranked atop US News’s list of the best sports cars for the year. There are many reasons for this, starting from the powerful engine setup and the availability of a traditional manual gearbox.
It is also an efficient car for its class and the size of the engine. Inside, you get a lot of standard technology and a well-built and comfy cabin. You also get to choose between a fastback and a convertible. Plus, the reliability is also there so you can expect it to be a dependable vehicle.
