Features

The current Expedition model offers a total of 6 trims, 1 engine with various tuning levels, and 2 wheelbases. The 2022 Ford Expedition changes include interior upgrades in terms of design and technology. We also get the all-new 2022 Expedition Timberline trim finetuned for off-roading goodness.

Engine and Numbers

The engine on the 2022 Expedition is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. This produces 380 hp and 470 lb-ft if you equip it with the XL and XLT trims. On the Limited trim, this engine is tuned to produce 400 hp and 480 lb-ft. If you get it with the monstrous Timberline trim, it produces 440 hp and 510 lb-ft.

The Timberline’s numbers also apply if you opt for the Limited Stealth Performance Edition. The gearbox used on all the trims is a 10-speed automatic which sends all that power to the rear wheels. You can equip it with 4×4 as well. The Expedition is very quick and has a 0-60 mph time of around 5 s.

The maximum towing capacity that the 2022 Expedition is good for is 9300 lbs. The 2022 Expedition MAX isn’t far behind with 9000 lbs. These are the highest hauling figures for the full-size SUV category if you’re willing to equip your Expedition right.

Despite both being large and powerful vehicles, the Expedition and Expedition MAX are able to give max combined fuel averages of 19 mpg.

The Limited model increases the amount of luxury that you get. You get leather seats that are heated (and ventilated in the first row), a heated steering wheel, ambient mood lighting, and a killer premium 12-speaker sound system from B&O. A salient standard feature is adaptive cruise control w/stop-and-go.

2022 Expedition Timberline

The 2022 Timberline is well-equipped and you add wireless charging, 2 more USB ports and power points, and a host of offroad hardware and software systems (mentioned below). Added safety systems include a 360-degree camera with guidance for when you reverse with your trailer.

2022 Expedition King Ranch

The King Ranch model oozes sophistication with premium offerings such as Mesa Del Rio leather upholstery, a (larger) 15.5-inch infotainment screen, and an upgraded B&O sound system with 22 speakers.

Another highlight on this is the Active Park Assist 2.0, which helps you take control to counter all sorts of parking challenges.

2022 Expedition Platinum

Despite the influx of features offered on the models above, the range-topping Platinum model still delivers. Apart from all of the perks above, it also offers contour seats for max comfort, a better ride with its CCD suspension, and better noise cancellation.

Exterior and Driving

On the outside, the 2022 Expedition sports a modern and handsome exterior. The wheels available are all made out of aluminum and their sizes vary from 18- to 22-inches. The models differ in terms of their wheels and their front grilles.

The Timberline trim may be the most eye-catching of them all. It sports a darker grille, which combines with its red accents, higher ground clearance, and chunky A/T tires to help you stand out in traffic. The 2022 Expedition is insanely quick at accelerating for most vehicle classes. Apart from the performance, it also offers a stellar ride that is refined and quiet. It is an excellent off-roading machine as well. The Timberline takes it up a notch with its Trail Control system and multiple range settings.

JD Power has given the 2022 Ford Expedition a reliability rating of 75 out of 100, which puts it at average. Combine this rating with the positive feedback from the consumers and the NHTSA, and you’ve got yourself a dependable beast.

Verdict

The 2022 Expedition is an awesome SUV and it should be an easy choice if you’re looking for a large SUV that is practical, luxurious, and great to drive. Despite its size, it doesn’t feel like a very large vehicle to drive particularly because of how maneuverable it is.

The safety systems are many and so are the attributes for convenience. The Expedition also takes it easy on the fuel bill and the reliability ratings should favor its dependability as well. And yes, all of the above also applies to the 2022 Expedition MAX.
